It was a real pleasure to visit Elburton Primary School Page today and meet with Headteacher Mr Smithers, Deputy Heads Mrs Light and Mrs Birnie, and have a coffee and a doughnut with teachers and TAs at breaktime! Happy Birthday to Mrs Poole too!
I had a really constructive discussion with Mr Smithers about the school’s work around SEND provision and the ongoing challenges around funding. It is clear that he and the team are deeply committed to supporting every child to thrive.
I was then invited to join the whole school for a Remembrance Assembly, beautifully led by the Elburton School Troopers - their military kids club. It was deeply moving, given that 10% of Elburton’s pupils come from military families. Their respect and understanding of service and sacrifice was truly inspiring. The singing was great too!
After the assembly, I had a tour of the school and even got to see some of the fantastic purple poppies out at the front, representing all the animals lost during wartime. The sense of pride and community that fills Elburton Primary School is something very special. Thank you all for such a warm welcome and I am looking forward to my next visit soon!
