Following last week’s events, where the Government was forced to abandon key elements of its own proposals at the eleventh hour, their Welfare Bill has become a textbook example of poor policymaking. This leaves both those who rely on welfare and the taxpayers who fund it without the system they deserve. As a result, I voted against the Bill at Third Reading. We need real reform, not rushed or reckless policymaking.
I believe in a welfare system that is compassionate, protects those genuinely in need, but is also fair to taxpayers and encourages independence.
Labour, the Liberal Democrats, and Reform UK all want to spend even more on welfare, ignoring the reality that nearly 28 million people in the UK already receive some form of benefit. This is simply not sustainable.
The Conservatives are the only party serious about creating a welfare system that rewards work, encourages independence, protects the vulnerable, and ensures fairness for the taxpayers who fund it. I will be closely monitoring further legislation to make sure it does this.;
Yesterday, leader of the Conservatives, Kemi Badenoch gave a speech on our welfare policy. You can watch it here: www.facebook.com/share/v/1GMWC6aDSB/?mibextid=wwXIfr
