Why should farmers need planning permission to build a pond?
The hot, dry weather over the past few weeks has exposed the pressures facing our farmers, with crops suffering and livestock struggling.
That’s why, back in June, I introduced a Bill to allow farmers and landowners to create small wildlife ponds without applying for planning permission. They can store water and provide vital habitats for wildlife.
On Friday, my Bill is due to have its Second Reading in Parliament.
You can read my op-ed below to find out why this change is needed and watch this space for an update on Friday!
