I know that many of you are stuck on a waiting list for a NHS dentist and frustrated by the lack of progress. We have a world-class dental school in Plymouth, Peninsular Dental School, but unfortunately, the vast majority of dental students who come to Plymouth to study return home to practice.
That's why I signed a joint letter with the other Plymouth MPs to the Health Secretary about increasing the number of training places for dental students in Plymouth.
I was disappointed with the Labour Minister's response which failed to address our concerns or grasp the seriousness of Plymouth's dental crisis, and instead span out party lines.
It is essential that we keep the pressure on the Government to increase the number of dental appointments in Plymouth and the surrounding areas - I will continue to work cross-party to help achieve this goal, including pressing for a meeting with the Health Minister to discuss the issue further.
