Happy National Fish and Chip Day!
To mark National Fish and Chip Day, I stopped by The Plymstock Fish and Chips to meet Shane, Leanna and the team to hear more about the business.
After taking over the business last year, they’ve recently completed a fantastic refurbishment and are looking ahead to the future. It was also lovely to hear more about the family’s connection to Plymouth’s hospitality sector, with Leanna’s father, Baniko, having founded the much-loved Lanterns Restaurant in town.
We spoke about some of the challenges facing local hospitality (and other) businesses, including rising energy costs and pressures throughout the supply chain. When the cost of fish, potatoes, packaging or transport increases, the impact is felt by everyone, including you and me.
It was also great to hear about the local suppliers they work with, including Holmes Farm Delivery for their potatoes and Friars Pride Ltd for their fish.
Of course, I couldn’t leave without trying the fish and chips for myself and I can confirm they were delicious!
Thank you to Shane, Leanna and the team for the warm welcome, and to Tom and KFE Ltd for showing me some of the impressive work you've done as part of the refurbishment.
If you’re thinking about what’s for dinner tonight, why not support one of our brilliant local chippys!
