One important part of my role as a Member of Parliament is holding the Government to account as a member of the Transport Select Committee.
We scrutinise the work of the Department for Transport and challenge ministers, businesses and stakeholders on their decisions and evidence. Today I briefly chaired the Committee as we dug further into the detail of the Government’s Railways Bill.
This legislation will have significant implications for local and regional rail networks, passenger services, and accountability within the rail system. The Committee’s role is to test the detail of the proposals, press for clear answers and ensure the potential impact on communities is properly examined.
I will continue to raise local rail priorities and make sure these issues are thoroughly scrutinised as the Bill progresses through Parliament as a member of the Bill Committee too
