With postal votes arriving from this Saturday, Plymouth voters deserve clarity ahead of the important referendum on how our city is governed.
I recently asked the Government whether their forthcoming local government legislation allows Plymouth to have a directly elected mayor or leader or not. The response I received was vague and unclear. Instead of providing answers, the Government's response created more confusion. So I tabled a second question last week. However, the Secretary of State is late in providing her response.
With both sides of the debate continuing to contradict one another, it is my view that the voting public of Plymouth is currently without the clear facts they need. As such I’ve now submitted a further question to chase the lack of response.
I am urging the Government to provide an outright answer before 21st June when Plymouth residents start to vote on whether they want a directly elected council or leader in the referendum. I’ll continue to keep residents updated as soon as I receive any further information.
