It was great to meet with the National Grid team in Plymouth.
The team shared with me that the Government's net zero drive, such as installing heat pumps and electric vehicles, and plan to build 1.5m new homes will triple electricity demand by 2050.
We discussed National Grid's recent response Storm Darragh and their resilience plans as the UK responds to more extreme weather events. They are able to keep the power on 99.9993% of the time! I also raised the infrastructure needs of new developments such as Sherford. I'm looking forward to doing a site visit at one of their substations soon!
National Grid also offer a Priority Services Register (PSR) which provides extra help and additional support during a power cut for elderly, very ill or disabled people, or those who rely on power for medical equipment.
