I’m pleased that the government have announced a one-year extension to the Adoption and Special Guardianship Support Fund (ASGSF). This is a welcome step, providing much-needed continuity for looked after children and their families. However, it’s deeply disappointing that despite committing to this funding, they have not reversed the damaging cuts made earlier this year. These reductions have already harmed children’s mental health and disrupted essential therapy services.
It is right that we ensure that every child receives the support they deserve. The government’s failure to restore funding to previous levels is a missed opportunity to truly support vulnerable children and families.
