Following feedback from over 250 residents through my recent survey on anti-social behaviour in Mount Batten and Hooe, I’ve recently met with Plymouth City Council and the police to push for meaningful action. Here’s the latest update:
- The Council and police are now working towards introducing a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) to help tackle persistent anti-social behaviour in key areas, such as the Jennycliff and Mount Batten car parks. This would give the Council powers to disperse individuals causing disruption, particularly around issues like car cruising and youth-related vehicle nuisance.
- Follow up on an Anti-Social Behaviour Case Review process that was triggered by Cllr Daniel Steel which I fully support. This allows residents to request a review of how previous ASB reports have been handled, helping ensure agencies respond appropriately and work together to resolve ongoing issues.
I am aware that loud noises were also a major concern for residents and the Council have advised residents to keep a diary of all noise disruptive incidents for at least two weeks, being sure to include details such as times, dates and locations. This not only allows the Council to build up a picture of where and when these incidents are occurring, but would also trigger noise detection equipment to be installed if necessary. If this is something you're already doing - or would consider doing - please do let me know.
My survey also showed that almost 70% of residents were yet to report any anti-social behaviour to either the police or Plymouth City Council. The message from both parties is to please report all incidents of anti-social behaviour and noise-related concerns using the following links:

Devon & Cornwall Police: https://www.devon-cornwall.police.uk/ro/report/asb/asb-v3/report-antisocial-behaviour/
Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to share their experiences so far. I’ll continue to keep residents updated and hold the relevant authorities to account.
