How healthy are your bones?
It was good to pop into the Royal Osteoporosis Society's drop-in in Parliament and meet Ruth, the charity’s Director of Services, Influencing and Innovation.
Around 6,800 people in South West Devon are living with osteoporosis, placing us among the 15% of constituencies across the country that are most affected by the condition. It was useful to hear more about the support available and the work being done to diagnose the condition earlier.
Although it is more common in women, it is important that men don’t overlook their bone health either. One in five men over 50 will break a bone because of osteoporosis.
I also had a go at the Great British Bone Check, a quick online tool that helps you understand your own risk of osteoporosis.
You can give it a try here: https://thegreatbritishbonecheck.org.uk/
And thanks to my constituent Nic for asking me to pop in and find out more!
