I recently had the opportunity to reflect on the incredible work hospices do in supporting people and families, during Hospice Care Week.
Many hospices are facing real pressure. Rising costs, falling donations, and limited funding have forced at least 18 to reduce staff or cut services since last spring.
Hospices help people stay at home, ease pressure on hospitals, and provide compassionate, personalised care. Places like St Luke's Hospice Plymouth, which supports more than 3,500 people each year both at home and at their Turnchapel unit, show just how vital these services are. I will continue to urge the Government to fairly fund hospice and palliative care so they can keep supporting people when they need it most.
