Another year and another fantastic Armed Forces Day on Plymouth Hoe.

Too much to cover in one post so more to come but, I wanted to end the day with a post about the incredible Future Fit Junior Field Gun Competition which took place across a huge part of the Hoe Promenade all day. The first run was at 9:30 and the last well after 16:00 and the children involved kept up their energy to the very end!

Very proud that six schools from my constituency were taking part and even prouder that between them they won four prizes! Loved meeting pupils and adults from each of the six schools too!

Congratulations to Yealmpstone Farm Primary School for coming 3rd in the Points Cup and securing the second lowest penalty points, Plympton St Mary Infants and Old Priory Junior Academy for achieving the second fastest run time (2:25 minutes!) and Woodlands Park Primary School for getting the third lowest number of penalty points. Their prizes were presented by retired Admiral, Andrew Burns. A huge supporter of the event and a constituent too!

And well done to Stowford School, Boringdon Primary School and Oreston Community Academy for being brilliant teams too!

I had the privilege of awarding the Endeavour Cup to Leon Lambourne. Leon was part of the Widey Court Primary School team when he was a pupil there and has since been an ambassador and now trains their teams (the won nearly all the other prizes!). Although not in my consistency, Leon deserves a mention as an outstanding young volunteer and role model to all the children involved in the Junior Field Gun.

And finally, the annual Junior Field Gun competition wouldn’t take place without the volunteers, parents and teachers who train, prepare and attend the event with their children. Thank you! The biggest thanks go to David and Margaret Worrall who lead this incredible organisation and event!

Thursday, 13 August, 2026
Could first jobs be taken off the menu? It was great to meet James at the McDonald's on Billacombe Road to discuss the Government’s employment reforms and what they could mean for youth employment in hospitality. My own first job was sweeping the floor at a florist and, if I was lucky, bei
