Time is running out to have your say on local government reorganisation! There are now three final proposals for Devon, each of which would have a different impact on Plymouth, South Hams, and West Devon. I’ve put together a final short survey because I’m keen to understand which proposal you would like to see implemented and to make sure your views are represented.
Proposal 1
- South Hams & West Devon: Would join together with Teignbridge and Torbay to form one of two new unitary Councils in Devon.
- Plymouth: Would stay as a separate unitary authority within its current boundaries.
Proposal 2:
- Plymouth: Would grow in size, taking on 13 parishes from South Hams. Torbay and Exeter would also have their boundaries expanded.
- South Hams: Would lose several parishes to Plymouth; the remainder would join a Devon-wide unitary authority.
- West Devon: Would remain outside Plymouth’s boundaries and also join the Devon-wide coastal/rural unitary authority.
Proposal 3:
- South Hams & West Devon: All Devon district councils (including South Hams and West Devon) would be abolished and merged into one new unitary council covering all of Devon except Plymouth and Torbay.
- Plymouth: Would stay as a separate unitary authority within its current boundaries.
I would be grateful if you could take a few minutes to complete the survey and share your views below. Your feedback will help me understand what you feel about the proposals and what they would mean for both you and your community.
