Great to be at Plymstock School this morning as part of UK Parliament Week! I kicked things off with a team meeting with the SLT (and, of course, some pastries!) before navigating the chaos of drop-off time - I’ll be picking this up and seeing what I can do to help. After that, I headed over to lead the Year 9 assembly, where I spoke about my pathway into politics and what it’s like to work as an MP.
I then had the chance to be thoroughly grilled by students from across all year groups, with questions ranging from housing, immigration, the NHS, British values and of course the recent Budget. Always inspiring to see such curiosity and engagement from young people!
It was also great to see some of the fantastic Christmas cards that the school’s Young Carers support group have put together to raise funds for the Be Kind Group, which supports Young Carers and bereaved students. I was delighted to contribute through my community grant to help support their efforts recently - such a brilliant example of students making a real difference!!
A big thank you to Mr Koehler-Lewis, Mr Taylor, and all the staff and students for the warm welcome and for making the visit so enjoyable.
