Today we mark Holocaust Memorial Day, a time to remember the millions of Jewish people and others persecuted during the Holocaust, and to reflect on the lessons it teaches us for today.
Last summer, I had the privilege of lighting the Eternal Flame at Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Centre. Being there and confronting the reality of what happened across Europe was deeply moving and reinforced why this day is so important.
Holocaust Memorial Day is not just about remembering...it’s about acting. Antisemitism is on the rise and we must challenge prejudice, hatred, and misinformation wherever we see it.
Last week, I also signed the Holocaust Education Trust’s Book of Remembrance in Parliament, joining MPs from across the political spectrum in committing to fight antisemitism. Here in Plymouth, that means supporting our new Jewish Community group and standing with anyone persecuted for their race or faith, both at home and abroad.
