Thousands of people suffering with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (PoTS) across Devon and Cornwall have not been able to access adequate treatment since the retirement of Derriford's only local specialist in July.
PoTS is a debilitating condition that causes an abnormally rapid increase in heart rate when standing up or sitting up; the clinic provided a lifeline for those affected.
My question about region access to PoTS treatment at Prime Minister's Questions last month forced a ministerial meeting.
I am pleased to share that that meeting has now taken place with Health Minister Andrew Gwynne, Devon Integrated Care Board (ICB) Chair John Govett and Cardiometabolic Health Professor David Strain.
Real progress is being made locally, and I am reassured to know that there are local academics who have been researching how best to support POTs patients.
I will continue to work closely with the Department for Health, ICB and experts to ensure that local treatment for PoTS is restored and none of my constituents are left behind. As soon as I can share further information I will!
