Earlier today, I was honoured to place a poppy cross in the Houses of Commons Garden of Remembrance on behalf of South West Devon.
Remembrance is more than a tradition – it is a commitment to reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who have served. Having spent several years with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, I have seen firsthand the importance of remembering those who gave their lives for our country.
Our area has a proud military tradition, from the 42 Commando Royal Marines at RM Bickleigh to the many veterans and service families who continue to serve our communities. We must never take our freedoms for granted, and we owe it to them, and to future generations, to honour their sacrifice.
