Last night, I formally presented my petition to Parliament, signed by more than 4,200 local people.
The strength of feeling has been clear from the many people I have spoken to, those who have written to me and the thousands who signed my petition. In the Government’s own consultation, just 20% of responses to the proposal from Plymouth and Exeter which the government has chosen were positive. It was the second least popular of the five options considered, yet despite this, the Government chose to press ahead with it.
Following my question to the Prime Minister yesterday, Andy Burnham now has a choice: ignore these concerns and plough ahead, or listen to local people and reconsider these plans.
A huge thank you to everyone who signed and helped spread the word. We now await the Government’s response!
