Thank you to everyone who has continued to contact me to share their concerns about the recent Stagecoach fare increases. I know how much this is affecting families, especially young people travelling to school or college. I am aware the new school year starts on Monday for most and wanted you to have all the information I have.
Following our recent meeting, Stagecoach has confirmed a review of fare zones will take place from early 2026. Some improvements are being explored, including for 16-18 year old costs, but unfortunately nothing will change in time for this Autumn.
The X1 service has been raised with me many times and I know how important it is for local families. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that changes will be made this side of the summer. I am bitterly disappointed about this, but Stagecoach have been clear that part of the issue is that decisions to subsidise school and post-16 travel are a matter for Devon County Council and the service is not viable without support.
In the meantime, here is a reminder of the the new fares that are available from 31st August ahead:
- 1 Day: £6.60
- 7 Day: £5.28/day (5 out of 7 days), reducing to £3.77/day (all 7 days)
- 28 Day: £4.88/day (20 out of 28 days), reducing to £3.49/day (all 28 days)
- Flexi 5: £5.28/day
- Flexi 10: £4.62/day
It’s taken longer than I hoped to get a meeting with Devon County Council into the diary, but I am pleased to say one has now been arranged. I will be pressing them on what more can be done to support families with school and college travel.
Please be assured that I will keep pushing both Stagecoach and Devon County Council for fairer, more affordable travel. I will be sure to keep you updated as soon as there is any news.
