I know that those living in Sherford are increasingly frustrated with the pace of delivery of key community amenities. I regularly meet with the Sherford Consortium to raise these concerns and lobby for improvements. Whilst the vast majority of developments at Sherford are dictated by the planning permissions granted for the new town which I am unable to directly influence (MPs are not able to influence planning decision-making) I remain determined to provide a voice for my constituents.
Following on from my last meeting, I have a few positive updates from the Consortium which I would like to share:
Road Past Vealeholme – Planning Update
The Consortium has postponed its application for a stopping-up order to close a section of highway known as 'Road Past Vealeholme' which connects Hercules Rd/Main St in Sherford to Plympton Hill. The Consortium will instead fulfil its Section 106 planning obligation through a financial contribution to Plymouth City Council for traffic management measures and will apply for a temporary road closure in 2027 to enable essential gas and electricity infrastructure works.
Sherford Road Traffic Calming Project
Work on the Sherford Road Traffic Calming project remains on schedule, with phased works taking place in accordance with the timeline shared with residents in April. Full information, plans and maps are available on link to the planning page in the comments below.
Cricket Facilities
Work is continuing on the cricket pitch, with landscaping activity currently preparing the crease for temporary summer use in 2026, and full opening for the 2027 cricket season. Associated works are also taking place on the culvert crossing and car park, which are needed before the public can use the space.
Swale Improvements
Work continues on the swales - drainage channels designed to manage stormwater runoff - with installation of protective liners ongoing.
Phase 3 Development
Preparations are underway for services installation further up into the site, with gas, electric and water infrastructure due to be installed in the coming weeks. Some road closures will be required and full details will be communicated to affected residents nearer the time. Phase 3 has also reached an important milestone, with the first residents due to move into the area imminently.
Disabled Parking
Two disabled parking bays that had been requested on Gemini Road and Taurus Street have been completed.
Shop
Planning for the shop, nursery and flats by the community hub and school is making progress. As soon as there is anything to share publicly, I will.

GP
I recently met with the local GP provider hoping to provide the service to the community. Things are stuck with the NHS locally over funding issues and this is something I continually put pressure on. Following my recent meeting I am writing to Devon NHS to challenge them on unblocking the obstacles.
