Following my representations, the Managing Director of Stagecoach has clarified that the new U16 daily fare for students travelling from the Moors to school in Plymouth is £4.62 per day – that’s around £292.60 per term, not the previously feared £444.00.
New South West Zone costs for 16-18 year olds
· Flexi 5 = £5.28 per day*
· Flexi 10 = £4.62 per day*
Other options:
· Single journey = Up to £3 (available to purchase on-bus and app)
· Return journey = Up to £6 (assumes two single journey tickets are purchased)
· Day = £6.60
· 7 Day = £5.28 per day (based on travelling for five out of 7 days), reducing to £3.77 per day (based on travelling each of the 7 days)
· 28 Day = £4.88 per day (based on travelling for 20 out of 28 days), reducing to £3.49 per day (based on travelling each of the 28 days)
*Flexi 5 and Flexi 10 Child Tickets allow travel on any five or ten individual days, making them ideal for both regular school commuters and occasional travellers. These bundles offer discounts of up to 20% and 30% compared to daily tickets and are available through the Stagecoach app.
However, it remains clear that the 2025/26 SW Autumn Termrider for 16-18 year olds is £444.00. I remain concerned that older teens are being asked to pay an extra £150+ for the same service and am querying this with Stagecoach.
Thank you to everyone who has raised this with me – it is clear Stagecoach should have communicated this properly from the start. I hope this update brings some clarity. I am also following up the issues with transport to DHSG and DHSB. Please continue to let me know if you have any further queries by emailing rebecca.smith.mp@parliament.uk.
