On Friday I raised concerns about the further watering down of safeguards in the Assisted Dying Bill.
Removing the checks of a coroner does not square with a commitment to enact legislation with the 'strongest safeguards in the world'. Instead, it sets a lower bar for scrutiny and review and plays jeopardy with the lives of the most vulnerable in our society.
I tabled amendment A to New Clause 15 to ensure that deaths from assisted dying still fall within the coroner’s duty to investigate - providing protection against abuse and coercion and ensuring effective scrutiny of how the law works in practice.
