Supporting Plymouth’s tourism sector
During English Tourism Week, I was pleased to join a roundtable at Boringdon Hall Hotel with local tourism and hospitality leaders, including Destination Plymouth, Moxy Hotels, Tamar Crossings, The Box Plymouth, Tinside Lido, Plymouth Waterfront Partnership, Plymouth Arena and The Drake Hotel Plymouth.
Tourism is a vital part of Plymouth’s economy, bringing in over 4 million visitors each year, supporting more than 6,000 jobs, and contributing over £340 million locally.
It was really useful to hear directly from businesses about the challenges they face - from rising costs and recruitment pressures to infrastructure issues and the impacts of VAT and increased national insurance.
We must do more to support this sector, and I will continue to press the Government to back Plymouth’s tourism industry and face the realities businesses are dealing with on the ground.
