Last night, the House of Lords voted in favour of proposals to introduce an age limit on social media use for under-16s.
While this is not yet a done deal and the issue will return to the House of Commons for further debate, it shows growing recognition across Parliament that we must do more to protect children online.
Since my post earlier this week, parents across South West Devon have shared serious concerns about the content their children are exposed to online and the impact smartphones and social media are having on their childhood.
Many families are already doing their best to manage screen time, but parents should not be left to tackle this challenge alone. I believe we need stronger safeguards and better support to help create a safer online environment for children.
