Not a bad way to watch the fireworks!

I had a slightly different view of this year’s British Firework Championships, joining Nick, George and Smudge from Devon & Cornwall Police's Marine and Underwater Search team out on Plymouth Sound onboard Neptune.

Based at Plympton (with Neptune moored at Turnchapel), the team has a much wider job than many people may realise. From searching for missing people and investigating crime on the water to coastal patrols and tackling smuggling, they cover a huge amount across Devon and Cornwall.

It was great to hear more about what they do. With the longest coastline in the country across our two counties, we should be really proud to have this specialist marine and diving team based here. I also picked up some questions about Marine Policing and the challenges they face that I will be taking back to Westminster.

Thanks for having me aboard and for a pretty spectacular view of the fireworks.
