I’m very pleased to see that the new Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) will be opening at Derriford Hospital on the 3rd September. The funding for this project was secured by the previous Conservative Government through the Future Hospitals Programme which has made this important investment in local healthcare possible.
Located in the Dartmoor Building, the UTC will be open every day from 8am–8pm for patients of all ages who need urgent care but not A&E. It will be able to treat issues such as:
- Limb fractures
- Sprains and strains
- Minor head injuries
- Small burns and scalds
- Cuts, bites, stings and infected wounds
- Foreign bodies in eyes
Parking will also be available with 14 short-stay spaces and 2 disabled bays which will be available for up to 30 minutes, with the multi-storey available for longer visits.
This new centre will play an important role in easing pressure on Derriford’s A&E by directing non-emergency cases to a more suitable setting. It will mean shorter waits, quicker treatment, and better use of NHS resources for patients across our community.
