Mandatory Digital ID scrapped!
Another day, another humiliating Labour u-turn. The mandatory digital ID scheme is dead - and good riddance.
This was an intrusive, heavy-handed proposal that should never have been considered. Let’s be clear: the public never asked for it, never voted for it, and never gave Labour permission to meddle so deeply in their lives. There was no mandate and Labour knew it.
However, it is right to point out that this u-turn marks the 13th in just 18 months. A government lurching from idea to idea, retreating at the first sign of pressure. No plan. No backbone. No conviction.
Whilst this move is incredibly welcome, Britain deserves more than a Government that governs by panic and weakness.
